Working in the DevOps team supporting the platform hosting online passport applications services (both front-end citizen service, and back-end processing services) and the development teams producing the digital service.

A primarily hands-on position, requiring strategic feature development and direction as well as architectural system design improvements, in conjunction with the Technical Design Authority, Security teams and delivery teams' System Architects.

I joined the team as a Senior DevOps engineer shortly after the digital service had entered public beta stage, and moved into a Lead engineering role around 12 months into my time in the role.  Responsibility for production platform scalabiliy and availability, supporting 6 development teams and ensuring their use of the platform was appropriate and in line with security and architectural requirements.

Lots of troubleshooting and problem solving including in-depth mongodb maintenance and upgrades, coordinating across teams to respond to unprecendented peaks in traffic significantly above predicted levels causing strain on systems etc.
