ROLE: Technical Author

LOCATION: Fleet, Hampshire  - hybrid – 2 days in office 

SALARY: £45k - £55k p/a 

The UK’s favourite job board are looking for a Technical Author with a background in agile software development to join our high performing team.

As a Technical Author, you will collaborate with software developers, product managers, architecture, and QA to develop clear, concise documentation for a wide range of complex technical topics. You are knowledgeable in architectural documentation and well versed in various models including C4, UML, SysML. You will work across all areas of our technology team, maturing our existing documentation to a common standard that is easy to read and maintain. The role requires that you are able to define documentation standards across technology, coaching others to replicate the practises and structures you implement.

Our documentation platform of choice is Confluence by Atlassian - previous experience configuring Confluence to deliver documentation as part of an agile workflow is beneficial for the role.

Responsibilities

Create, maintain, and improve technical documentation across our entire technology estate

Define standardised documentation techniques and practises for our future

Review and proof documentation in collaboration with other members of our technology teams

Update the presentation, structure, style, and organisation of our existing documentation to comply with the standards you define

Improve the standards you define through attention to processes, tools, and users' needs

Own the development of documentation as a practise across technology

 

Essential Requirements

Excellent communication skills in English - both written and verbal.

Experience working with, reading, and writing code, or a developer with a demonstrable record of producing outstanding documentation

Familiarity with application deployments, Agile CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure management

Ability to assimilate technical information, at speed, from a variety of sources

Knowledge of REST API documentation and standards, Git, and version control

Expertise and experience to nurture and coach existing capabilities within our teams to improve the overall standard of our technical documentation

Desirable Requirements

Proven experience working with large geographically dispersed teams

Previous history working in a fast-paced environment, experienced with rapid technical transformation
